These papers concern mainly Francis Jerdone, son of Francis Jerdone, a prominent Scotch merchant who settled at Yorktown and later moved to Louisa County. Francis Jerdone, born in Scotland, came to Virginia about 1750. A merchant in Louisa County, he built Jerdone Castle ca. 1752, and acquired large holdings in Albermarle, Spotsylvania, and Louisa counties.
